This dress is for school project for 3D design. The assignment was to create a functional or wearable piece of artwork that was made of the same object used again and again. The second part of the project was to incorporate a performance that used the piece as well as the original function of the object. I decided to make a wedding dress because I've always wanted to make one! I made it out of paper napkins, because just like napkins, wedding dresses are a one time use commadity for a wedding. I believe that the importance should not be stressed on the expensive dress the bride wears, but more on the lifelong committed marriage between two people. The removal of the belt in the performance is to symbolize the dress being as important as the napkins serving dessert and vice versa. The belt also symbolizes the support system that typically makes up a reception, friends and family. The actress playing the bride is my sister Kristen and the groom is played by her boyfriend Eric. This is the dress; I hope everyone likes it! Btw, roughly between 500 and 600 hundred napkins were used in it's making as well as no other materials, only nylon elastic thread and sewing thread :)
Just an FYI, they did not really get married, nor is this a real reception. This is mearly a performance of my artwork. Thanks, Liz
