According to a recent report, 11 percent of the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are female. Official government policy prohibits women from being assigned to "direct combat" units. However, a loophole in the execution of this policy is putting women in roles they have never seen before in war. By nature of an insurgency, women are in more danger than ever before, but they are also playing a more vital role in the success of missions in the Middle East.
