I think its kinda important to recognize the fact that from a sound engineering standpoint, its much much easier to build a good sounding headphone if its open-back. It simply allows the frequencies to develop their full resonance, thus creating a much fuller sound. The real trick is sustaining the sound quality while using a closed back design (imho closed backs have a higher worth since they block out most of the justifiably annoying background noises).

SR 80 are indeed the all time best phones regarding sound, but comfort could be better....

@entwistle14 Actually, it's kind of a waste if you don't have a amp for the headphones. These headphones require allot of power, and if you run it through an iPod or iTouch without an amp you're not using it to the full potential. Best to play on home stereo systems, etc. OR, invest in the HM-601, best MP3 player in the world :D built in amp!

@2daewoo4u I do have a amp that was made for me, surprisingly the headphones still sound great by themselves. Thanks for the comment. I will check into the HM-601
