My first pulse combustor. Started with a 6mm opening and petrol. Tried various intake diameters and fuels (98 octane unleaded petrol, shellite, and isopropyl achohol). 500mL Mayonaise jar turned out to be self sustaining with a 17mm intake and 8mm of isopropanol resting on the bottom of the combustion camber.

Just a collection of trials and ignition attempts. Ignition of the jam jar can be tricky AND DANGEROUS. Getting the air/fuel mixture just right is crucial and hard to do without any 'real' control.

Further testing will include thrust measurements for different bottle sizes and fuel combinations

  • Couple days ago I made one out of a fire extinquisher using the same measurements than my previous jam jar jet and it works very well and puts out a huge thrust.

If you wan`t to make one, the measurements are:

    Length 100 %

    Width 38 %

    Hole 6,76 %

    For example:

    Length 25 cm

    Width 9,7 cm

    Hole 1,7 cm

    -Try to make one !

  • I use a 12mm hole, a pasta sauce jar and methanol - most burns last over a minute before the heat breaks the jar.
