Illegal bird catching in Cyprus

In Cyprus every year millions of birds are cought and served as a luxury dish, called ampelopoulia. The most common trapping method is to use limestick, which is a stick with glue on it, and nets. These are non-selective trapping methods, and kills a lot of species from small songbirds to as big as owls, or even bigger raptors. It catch not just resident, but mainly migratory birds from Europe and Asia, cousing a big negative impact on the population of some different species in different countries. To catching and serving this birds are totally prohibited by the local and also by the EU laws, but the government take not enough effort against these problem.
