I quickly take you through how to draw the Lewis Structure of H3PO4 (Phosphoric Acid). I also go over hybridization, shape and bond angles.

  • @xelionizer you are correct with the Formal Charge Calc. and the hybridization

    ****Note the FC calc. was suppose to be "5 - 0 - 8/2 = +1" not "+0+8/2"

  • How on earth do you end up getting a formal charge of +1, when your arithmatic says 5+0+8/2 !? Don't you get 11? Or was there supposed to be a minus sign instead of a positive one? i.e.:

    5 + 0 - 8/2 = +1

I imagine the hybridization in regard to phosphorous being sp³ right? 1 electron in each of the sp³-hybrid orbitals, and 1 in the empty 3d (non-hybridized) orbital?

    I'm a little confused here :S

    thx for the vid dude;)
