A news story that aired on CNBC in 2001 about the company named "United Devices" and its work to launch a public grid (volunteer computing style) in cooperation with Oxford University and Intel to find a cure for cancer. The United Devices software was used to run grid.org and the World Community Grid.

  • You should not be running grid computing applications (or really any unauthorized software) on your work's computers unless they have specifically authorized it and their legal department agrees to the EULA/terms of use. After all, the hardware and power usage of the computer is still owned and paid for by your employer, not you.
