Fire and Rain was recorded by James Taylor on the 1970 album Sweet Baby James. In this iVideosongs title, instructor Rob Schumann shows you how to play the signature intro, guitar chords, and fingerstyle patterns from the song that has inspired songwriters for several decades. Guitarists will learn the arpeggiated parts as played on the classic recording, as well as typical embellishments played by James Taylor in live performance settings. Incorporating use of slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and arpeggios, this song is a perfect addition to the intermediate-level player's repertoire. This slow tempo song is played on an acoustic steel string guitar with a capo.

  • I teach music at a studio and have many times look at some videos. Some good some bad. I am sure it could be a good business but I am not wired that way and my students see what is for free and not. they still come by the droves to get guitar lessons and other inst. from me. I do carry 2 degrees and have been doing this awhile. I just thought and think that video lessons are interesting. there is some guy out there he is good and funny and you learn. best of luck cyber people

  • @chevytruck1959 We just surveyed 15,000 customers and asked them to tell us how we're doing in comparison to personal instruction, "free" videos on the web, sheet music, schools, and teaching software. Early results are that our videos rank neck and neck with instructors - and above all other methods/tools - in terms of student's preference for learning. So, we believe our system is a companion to complement an instructor's own methods, as "homework" to complement sit-down sessions. Thoughts?

  • You Tube is not for displaying free ads! Teach a lesson and maybe someone will visit your site. 1 star.

  • @ConorJB1 There are numerous free lessons and tutorials on YouTube and on our website. When we present a song and/or a certain artist or talent, and we need to pay them royalties or fees, we charge for the lessons. That's why there are previews for many of the lessons, rather than giving them for free.

  • preview lesson ??? i can watch James do it for fuck all mate , andPLENTY o good teachers here sharing music for free which stick yer preview up yr wallet.

  • I've purchased this lesson on iTunes, and I was curious about the verse section in particular. Could you basically play the chords in any way as long as it sounds good? It seems that James does that live now, with arpeggios or strumming.

  • As long as the video posting clearly indicates it is a preview lesson (or an ad if you want to call it that) people can choose whether to watch it or not. That`s right - as much as I hate ads, there's no harm in a YouTube video being one as long as it's clearly labeled as such. No one need be inconvenienced or forced to watch it.

That being said, I watched this video because I want to learn the song, & it convinced me to buy the full lesson. Best 4 bucks I ever spent. It's clear & thorough.

  • @Adman44 yeah seriously. its 3 bucks. thats nothing.

i got russell kunkel's video on studio drumming 101 for like 3.99 and it was 20 minutes. that information was worth MUCH more than just 3.99!!! great great great! thx ivideosongs!

  • It is a PREVIEW folks...you will have to pay a whopping three dollars for the entire lesson... Rob Schumann is a better guitar player and teacher than any other you are likely to find on the internet. He taught rock guitar at AIM for several years. He is a degreed classical guitarist as well. You should check out some of his lessons before griping about a free preview. The dude rocks!

  • Key of C major. Capo on third fret using forms from A major. That's all you're going to get from this vid. Not even enough info to rate the instructor's qualifications. And fingernails? This guy fails the basics of Guitar 101... Cut your nails!
