Sick of the Zakharova haters, yes you're allowed your opinion, art is subjective and I prefer Zakharova's version to Guillem's... but there's no need to bash her, let's remember who's been prima at the Mariinsky, and is now prima at Bolshoi and La Scala, not the people behind a computer screen that couldn't dance this to save their life.

she must stay in the classical ballet! Seriously...

@tightlygagged wow....interesting comment. Strange as well, she is just a performer you know. She's not a politician, president or ruler or anything, just an artist. There are artists that I don't care for, some who's work I greatly dislike, but I don't think that can say that I "loathe them with every fiber of my being". Great thing is if you don't like a performer, you don't watch them perform, you don't bother reading comments about them. Easily solved.

her extension is amazing! omg!!! like, omg! i think her lines are done and then she like kicks it a little extra! omg!

...Actually too flexible for my taste. The comment about not actually "dancing" but striking poses in dead on--the problem is that that's what so many people expect to see when they attend a dance performance; legs, turns, and "picture" poses. There's SO much more to dance...

i wish someone would put up a video of the frankfurt ballet doing this. get to see the piece as done by people who really worked with forsythe.
the first woman to do this after sylvie was Elizabeth Corbert. one word.... AMAZING
-
she honestly looks like she's trying too hard to be all "contemporary" and letting go of her classicalism by being more sensual
-
@neojustyn you are sooooo right! It comes from the background.....but luckily not all russians are like that.....have you ever seen Saidakowa? She dances in Berlin and she the best of West and East all rolled into one! And also Polina Semionova....same thing.

I loathe Guillem with every fiber of my being, and have almost never seen more repulsive posing, posturing, nauseating mannerisms, overwhelming self-indulgence, and preciosity in any female dancer on earth. That said, the 'funk' and techno style of this piece is totally unsuited to Zakharova, as is the music, and she looks uncomfortably aware of this. And, as kdub observed, Guillem flails ever so much better in the in-between 'steps' here. LOL!

@kdub10009 Only wish I could have said it so well. I will be surprised if, in my lifetime, anybody will be able to match Guillem in this piece.
Zakharova makes this look like a series of poses; while those poses are pretty to look at, the performance lacks the propulsive energy required by the choreography and there's little attention paid to the in-between, connective movements. This is the most challenging thing about Forsythe, of course, and Guillem mastered it.

She has no sense of "funkiness" in this type of repetoire. I am sorry.
