Guppy - Mosquito eater, malaria fighter

The guppy fish from the West Indies and South America is a big ally in the fight against malaria and chikungunya. In open water bodies and rainwater tanks, guppies eat all mosquito larvae and prevent mosquito breeding.
The fish also can survive tough conditions in the water and breed within the carrying capacity of their environment.
There is always the danger of native species being affected by an alien species and that danger cannot be neglected when the fish is introduced into other ecosystems such as in India.
