NOTE: See the "Video Response" to this vid (below the vid) for the next vid in this Series.

We've probably all had a bird, a cat, or a dog appear on the road before us when driving...but bison?! Woah! Stop! And we did...big brave sisters that we are!

Thanks to Millie73, here are some facts:
bison can reach up to 2 meters (6.6 ft.) tall; 3 meters (10 ft.) long, and weigh 900 to 2,200 pounds (400 to 1000 kg.)...the biggest specimens weighed 2,500 pounds (1,130 kg)...that's a lot of meat, says Millie73!

  • Precious footage! Those bison are fascinating!!!

  • Amazing the creatures of our planet...I mustn't miss your footage of your upcoming trip :D

  • Wow, terrific footage. Again, I'm reading comments. Yes, everywhere we go in the west there are prohibitions about feeding the wildlife. It's really foolish to do but people think 'it won't matter just this once' and choose not to realize that there are millions of other tourists with the same idea. The squirrels at the Grand Canyon will accost you for food because they are so used to being fed - they act like teenagers and leave you with no doubt that they are owed your lunch!

  • Woah! It's so tempting to feed squirrels at home, but I don't for that reason.

Thx, Liz. There might be some people who probably are not aware of the warnings (but probably more who know them but don't heed them). I was amazed that people would let their children get out of the car! Are we so used to being around gentle dogs and cats that they have the wrong impression of wild creatures?!

  • The bison were so close to the road! They were't even bothered by the cars. The baby was so cute! Couldn't believe you got that on video. OMG!

  • Haa, you can hear our excitement, too! Still, we were reticent to go near them even in the car; they were so large, and could have charged the vehicles if they chose to!

  • Heh... I'm still putting up vids of our last two trips...

  • Yeah, I think they have gone to too many petting zoos. But you're right, it is common that people do that. I've seen it with other wild animals. Not good for the animals and not good for the people. Is ignorance really bliss?

  • 'prohibited' doesn't mean people followed that prohibition! I wonder...I really don't recall warnings about bison, but it surely was there, considering the deaths each year.

  • A campaign not to feed the bears! i would of thought the feeding of bears was already prohibited?
