On May 5th our Upper Potomac Manager took flight to investigate the activity of several Marcellus shale gas well sites in the Potomac Basin of West Virginia. The permits are in various stages of activity; however, the Department of Environmental Protection is very vague on the details for each site. While up there, he also spotted other sites that are of interest to investigate.

Greer Quarry in Pendleton County, WV.
A large CAFO in Hardy County, WV.
Lagoon treatment system in Allegany County, MD.

The flight was chartered by Light Hawk, a non-profit organization that coordinates pilots with groups that want to "Champion environmental protection through the unique perspective of flight."

The pilot was John Lawton, out of Ohio. The plane was a Cessna 172E modified.
