After Effects - Old Time Film Effects / Expressions TUTORIAL

This is a 6 part tutorial on how to create the effect of an old film reel, complete with vignette, flickering, grain, jumping film and damaged film splotches. The MAIN focus is the use of basic expressions to create most of the effects. This effect only uses 2 keyframes.

WARNING, this might be boring.

  • The next time you you do a tutorial where you are typing in expressions, PLEASE capture the whole screen. As a novice AE user, I couldn't see what you were typing into the expressions box on the right side of frame. Thanks for the effort, but this was a waste of my time since I couldn't duplicate what you were doing!

  • too much , AH, ahem, UM, , get to the point!! Andrew Kramer does it best.....I noticed a space between expressions, You dont say or instruct us to do so...Santax!!....Again Andrew Kramer does it Best!!

  • Unless you actually use the effect on something that looks like it should be filmed at this time period, you cant really tell if its the effect you are looking for.
