Roger Federer - Dubai 2011 - Magic (HD)
Roger Federer admitted allowing his mind to wander in his comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over Spaniard Marcel Granollers in the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Wednesday night. The top seed and World No. 2 was asked during his post-match press conference whether it sometimes is hard to remain 100 percent focused when he is headed towards a routine win.

"Sometimes [my concentration] wanders," Federer said. "Sometimes if you have a song in your mind, sometimes you're thinking of what's going to happen tomorrow, what's the plan for tonight. All those things happen. We're human at the end of the day. We're not a machine and go from like point to point like RoboCop.

"It's like we have our fun, and sometimes it's hard when the mind starts wandering. I realised today at one point I served the first point of one of the games and I was not even focused. I knew I was going to hit it down the T, but no, you know, not that full concentration I needed. And then I told myself: Okay, concentrate, please. So sometimes you have to remind yourself, because time goes by in between. You want to keep the intensity high, but at the same time you want to relax. It's a habit you get.

"By now obviously I'm an expert at it. I know how it works. But still, after playing so much tennis, I still have to remind myself to focus on each point, and then you break it down to each shot and so forth. So it sounds like it's hard, but you get the hang of it."

One reporter cheekily asked Federer if, during the match, he thought about what he would have for supper.

"Um, maybe. I don't know," Federer said. "You think of many things. You can imagine how many points I've played, so I've had a lot of time to think out there

Novak Djokovic extended his winning streak to 11 matches after rallying Wednesday to beat Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament. Djokovic, the two-time defending champion, also improved his Dubai winning streak to 12 matches and his career record at the tournament to 17-2. He next will play Florian Mayer, who defeated Andrey Golubev 6-3, 6-4.

The World No. 3's winning streak dates back to his twin victories in Serbia's Davis Cup final win over France and includes his second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last month. He is playing just his second tournament of the year.

Djokovic gave credit to Lopez for his spirited oppositon, which included a hot streak in the first three games of the second set when he had two love holds and broke Djokovic for the first time in the match. "To be honest, I was a little bit surprised with the way he was returning tonight," Djokovic said. "He was getting a lot of balls back and he was making me play an extra shot. In the rallies, we were quite even towards the end. So I'm just fortunate to go through.

"I think my coach will be happy with how many times I went to the net tonight, even though maybe it wasn't more successful. But I was going there and trying to change things. We're working on it... When I needed to return and keep the ball in play in the rally where I feel more comfortable than he does, that's what did I. Maybe that made a difference."

Roger Federer won his 755th career match by defeating Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-3, 6-4 to join Ilie Nastase in a tie for eighth place in the list of most match wins in the Open Era. (Jimmy Connors tops the list with 1,242.) Federer won 80 percent of points on his first serve an saved both break points he faced.

The five-time ATP World Tour Champion next plays Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, who upset eighth-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
