Lies And Crooked {w i n g s} || Entry For Fern c:

OMG.
I worked on this for at least 2 days straight. X33
This is an entry for Runningfern's contest c: The theme was "what if" and, man, did I have A LOT of fun with this.

Anywho...
PLOT:
Dovepaw and Ivypaw are sisters, and as close as sisters can be. But things begin to go amiss when their paths in life drift farther away from each other. Dovepaw begins to visit Tigerheart at night, while Ivypaw has secrets of her own- she is being trained by the Dark Forest.
One night Dovepaw confesses her love to Tigerheart- and the tom is unable to keep a secret from her. He tells her of visiting the Dark Forest, and how the ghostly tom Hawkfrost wants him to murder Firestar. Dovepaw is shocked and tells him that he needs to stop seeing Hawkfrost. Reluctantly, Tigerheart agrees.
A few nights later, deep in the dark forest, Tigerheart tells Hawkfrost and the rest that he can't do this anymore. Hawkfrost calls him a traitor and demands that Ivypaw attack him. Ivypaw simply smiles and murders the young cat.
When Tigerheart is found dead in his den, the news spreads through the clans like wildfire. Dovepaw is heartbroken and shields herself away from everyone- Lionblaze, Jayfeather, her friends, her parents... and even her sister. Ivypaw, meanwhile, feels guilty for Tigerheart's death and spends as much time as possible with Hawkfrost, letting her "angel" lull her to sleep and away from her murderous guilt.
Meanwhile Jayfeather is intruiged by Tigerheart's death and thinks the Dark Forest is to blame. And one night, he visits Ivypaw's dreams and sees her with the Dark Forest members as they prepare for war. Fearful, Jayfeather wakes up, wondering what will come of this.
At last the war between StarClan and the Dark Forest arrives. All is going well for Ivypaw until she is attacked by a StarClan warrior and is horribly injured. Shocked to see her sister fighting on the other side AND bleeding, Dovepaw runs over.
Ivypaw, meanwhile, keeps screaming for Hawkfrost to help her.
"Please, my angel," she whispers. "Save me."
But Hawkfrost only smiles and walks away.
Dovepaw cannot watch any longer. She lowers her head to her injured sister's fur and cries while Ivypaw weeps for her to remember, remember back when they were kits.
Dovepaw is so caught up in the battle and her sister that suddenly everything snaps. Looking up, she sees the spirit of Tigerheart is right next to her. He tells her that Ivypaw killed her and that he loves her.
"Don't surrender," he tells her. "Don't surrender."
Full of rage, Dovepaw turns on her sister. The she-cat can only look up with sorrowful eyes.
"Please..."
"This is your own fault, Ivypaw," she says. "I'm saving you from what you have become."
Ivypaw can only smile as Dovepaw slashes a deathly blow to her neck.
"You're my angel, Dovepaw. You have been all this time." Ivypaw whispers before dying.
And now, many years later, a dying Dovepaw (now Dovewing) turns her head to the sky. A shooting star blazes across the horizon and she is flooded with memories of her sister. As she breaths for the last time, Ivypaw's spirit comes to her- not the broken, bloody monster that she was, but the shining, beautiful warrior she could have been.
"Welcome home, my sister." She whispers, and leads her sister, her angel, her savior, Dovewing- into the stars for an eternal rest.
