Yes, WiiMC supports NTFS formatted drives. I am currently using that format now.

I typically watch videos through WiiMC using its sharing function. I store my videos on a computer and by sharing the video folder, WiiMC can view those files. Another way is to put videos on a USB drive and select them from there.

it plays avi format movies very well but when it comes to mp4 or mkv the sound is not sychronized with the movie and it sometimes freezes.. can i fix this somehow???
or it's just the wii this way?

You are correct, the Wii does not handle HD content very well. MKV files are high definition. Most likely, the MP4 file is transcoded in HD as well.
