Launching a MOOP (Miniature Ocean Observation Platform) sailing robot several miles offshore with the aim of it autonomously sailing ashore. This boat only has an extremely basic control system which just follows a fixed compass heading by adjusting the rudder. The sail is fixed in position and there is no GPS navigation. This work was undertaken by the Department of Computer Science at Aberystwyth University by a student working on a Nuffield Bursary.
