One day @ Griffith Park, we shot some free-form videos. Here are a few of mine.

Free-Form is the pracice of following your own energy, and creating forms which are never repeated and instead are of only the moment. After excessive drilling of your technique, and through extensive training, you can begin practicing free form to find where your energy flow is most prominent. This fluxuates w/ your mood, training frequency, and visualization. Through Free-Form, you begin to find your most used techniques, and the motions that your body is most comfortable with. You can use this drill to find what you use, what you don't use, and where your body is strong/weak.

A few questions to ask your self w/ initial Free-Form training:
•Is this a technique?
•Where does my energy flow in my hands/arms, and where does it flow in my feet/stepping?
•Am I rooted and am I applying stance?
•Is my energy being manipulated, or simply moving my limbs?
•Do I feel every part of my skin as I change directions and shift muscles groups, or is my mind elsewhere?

There are some basic questions to get you going with the practice. The goal is a medatitive state, where -- fast or slow -- your feeling your body's motions, and strengthening positive habits.

Comment if you have questions.

  • That's very generous of Loyal2Law! Thank you for the kind words, and now that I'm back from my trip to Wudang, I'll do my best to post some more!

    Catch you around the tube!

  • This is a great video. I just want to say that ur to tense n not enough emotional content. Please dont take this the wrong way. I respect that u have put time into training n making this video. Im a fighter n love the art n its essences in body in spirit.

  • Thank you for the positive comment, and the constructive critisism. Performing for a camera does cause me to tense up a bit, along w/ separate myself from my motion to some degree. That's something I need to get over it looks like! Even in my fights i choke up a bit. Practice Practice Practice! Thanks again.

  • is this suppose to be a combination of Ti Chi and Pa Kua Chang because I see a few things in the beginning that look like modified pa kua stances not to mentions the twisting and circling

  • Most appreciated.

As for not having a teacher, you could always start w/ the theory and philosophy from books, and then study the online materials on the different styles, so when you do begin your worldy adventure, you'll beable to reach leaps and bounds quickly. That's what I did for many years when I was away from my teachers.

Conditioning, health training, Qigong is all stuff that generally easy to get into w/o a direct instructor also.

    Best wishes man, thanks again!

  • That's a really nice video man. I've always wished my shit hole town would have some kinda martial arts. There was a guy who came in from a trip to Korea and he taught us for about 3 months. Then he got a call to compete again so he took the opportunity damnit ;( anyways 5*****'s and a sub. keep it up guys.

  • I think the best advice I've learned from Taiji is softness & receptiveness. Learning to listen to your body, and the flow of your energy and the positioning of your weight & joints, is a Qigong all on its own.

    Good luck on your journeys!

  • I try. You've inspired me to start Taiji to explore the softer and more internal side of things.
