"Feu follet" means "Will o' the Wisp": the most common name given to the mysterious lights that were said to lead travellers from the well-trodden paths into treacherous marshes. They are spirits either of the dead or of non-human intelligence and have a mischievous and often malevolent nature, luring unwary travellers into dangerous situations. From "Pièces de Fantaisie", 2nd Suite (1926).

Peter Bengtson plays the Cavaillé-Coll organ at Notre Dame de Metz, France. This is a virtual recording using Hauptwerk.

This High Definition recording has HiFi sound. Listening using headphones or a dedicated sound system is highly recommended.

  • Vierne wrote on his score: "Moyenne difficultè". :-/

  • This is the pinnacle as far as I am concerned for virtual organs. The hauptwerk software has reached a point were there is little left to criticize. This sample set of metz is excellent. Great playing Peter!

  • @ViniciusLoncanis maybe he made a comparison with Liszt's one :D

  • sounds so haunting...

  • @ViniciusLoncanis He certainly had a sense of humour, which some of my organ professors seemed to share with him.
