There's no doubt about it: Metal is full of minor tonalities. Be it Natural minor (aka Aeolian), Harmonic minor, the Phrygian or Locrian modes--the textures that resonate from these b3 laden scales perfectly color the darkenss this music thrives on. So, when your metal-lized ears hear something other than dreary minor tones you take notice. In the metal world no one is better at dropping some anti-minor sounds than the great Marty Friedman. After making much-o noise on Sharpnel records with Cacophony (with Jason Becker) and some stellar solo releases, Marty was enlisted by thrash metal pioneer Dave Mustaine to join the mighty Megadeth. Their first release was the groundbreaking Rust in Peace, which featured Marty's otherwordly soloing. This lick, constructed of a hexatonic formula that spells 1 b2 3 4 5 b7 is but a taste of what Marty can do.

  • Why everybody think that Marty's music is all about Megadeth and Hangar 18. He has 10 times cooler stuff in his solo records.

  • Annoying as fuck when its repeated

  • Guitar's sound is terrible

  • tabsssss in the video please....

  • this is the marty lick everyone should know???? why??

  • @terran236 Yeah... I always tought they weren't friends! Like, they're 2 amazing guitar players and one of the best metal combos ever (the whole rust in peace album is a masterpiece, best album ever) but it never seem that they get along that well, I guess theyre personality was expressed on their playing style, they were 2 completely diffrent styles

  • @terran236 I've read the book.

  • @Metalhead1365 He tried to change them but it failed, He left an epic legacy and he knew his time with metal was over. Hell, if you read the mustaine book, Dave says that it seems like martys heart was never 100% set on thrash. He called it a charade and he never felt marty and him were friends. I think marty is a business man first, musician 2nd. Maybe he just used megadeth to raise funds for his solo projects. That's what it seems like to me.

  • @ToastedCigar Megadeth was his best time though. Until he fucked them over and made them go alternative.

  • I love Marty:P but I guess you already noticed XD

  • @ToastedCigar Yeah right, lol that stuff sucks.

  • @metallica5252 I think what he meant was a half tone above the root chord.. as a power chord
