A brief moment in "Con Air" (1997) where Steve Buscemi defines the word 'irony' by giving an example of an ironic situation.

  • The ironic thing is, that isn't irony. That's just coincidence. People often confuse the two.

  • As with other English words, there are an assortment of definitions available to one word. "Run" is everyone's favorite example.

Irony. Noun, plural. "An outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected."

The song was made famous by a band who later died in a plane crash. The inmates were celebrating, dancing to that song while on a plane.

Not including Steve Buscemi's character, this could also be an example of dramatic irony.

  • Define Irony - A FOX TV Network executive turning down the program "South Park" because he didn't like Mr Hanky the talking piece of feces. Or did that just strike too close to home for him?

  • Same thing at my house
