I just returned from watching my NBA team, the OKC Thunder, lose to the Clippers. The Thunder beat the Spurs in San Antonio last night and then lose to the Clippers at home. Go figure. Anyway, I needed a little musical therapy so I recorded this tune.
This is a song from Stephen Stills first solo album. Stills had a big influence on my acoustic guitar playing back when I was a teenager. I spent some time in the last week re-learning this tune. I believe most of the chords are correct. I played the beginning of the solo from the Stills album and improvised the rest.
This song is in Drop D tuning. (D, A, D, G, B, E). Some people think this song is in double drop D tuning. I watched a couple of vids of Stills playing this and he is in regular drop D.

  • This may be a stupid question, but are you using dadgad tuning?

  • @kygreywolf

    No, it's in drop D.

  • Hey that's pretty close to the original in your own way, cool laid back version!

  • @JensHausmann

    Thank you.

The original is quite a bit slower than the live Stills versions on You Tube. I am pretty laid back now that you mention it.

  • This is the song that inspired Ray Lamontagne to quit his job in a shoe factory and become a singer songwriter.......Great cover Mark (as usual!)

  • @TonyJackMusic

    Thank's Tony Jack.

I rediscovered this tune and was inspired to record it after reading that about Ray.

  • Dude, you were born to play this song.

  • Sounds really good in Double Drop D tuning also. Mark, really captured the feeling on this, I like his version better than Stills!
