Narrated clip shot on the platform the Dehradun Railway station. There are scenes of people on the platform and of an old WG steam engine shunting passenger cars.

  • Im from Madras and around 1989, was when Steam Locomotives were being pulled out of the main line in large cities. I used to travel in summer to Calcutta and I was just barely 5 yrs old in June 1989 - that was probably the last time I saw Steam locos in Madras Central Station(while departing to Calcutta). But steam locos continued to serve well until 1995 in most of the smaller stations. The image of a Steam Loco is so strong and profound that I still remember it, although I was barely 5 then :)

  • Nice video from the last days of steam in India. The semaphore signals are long gone. There are a couple of new platforms. The steam shed is still there to house diseasel locomotives and the turntable was removed more than 10 years ago. Thank you very much for this video.

  • Awesome!

  • splendid capture ,reliving old golden days.nice vdo

  • Nice.Grew up in DD. I and my friend used to go the station to watch trains. We actually rode in the shunting steam engine thanks to a friendly driver. It was in 82-83 i think.Pity we had no access to video or movie cameras or even a still camera back then. But,still remember it so well.Chugging up and down DD station. Things were so relaxed then.

  • Amazing. Thanks for this moment.

  • I remember back in that time I was 3 years old and I would always go up to the train engine to see it up close. It was my childhood ambition to become an engine driver! the station has now changed massively. We have now 4 or even 6 platforms instead of the two shown there.

  • the railway station hasn't changed much since 89..

  • Nice to see how the station looked like in89
