just wish your camera mic would have less sibilance.. just to be able to hear the difference a bit better..

I have good results with self-built circuits, too. One is an overdriven OpAmp with jfet inputs, and the other is a combination of an OpAmp gain stage and a fet. Speakers play an important role, full range speakers require a proper filtering of the distortion trebles. As well the Sansamp TriAc in California Mode is great for harp& Boss OC3. And the Behringer ADI21 (dynamic mics only, as it clips at higher input levels).
So, that a good harmonica sound can only be obtained with tubes is a myth.

Hey, thanks for that! That's a really nice complement. If you are really interested in building it, it's not all that hard. The link to the schematic is posted on my first video of this preamp (check my channel). The tone control was added straight to the output of the preamp, right before the volume control. It's very very simple, and can be found by googling "simply wonderful tone control".

The volume control is a 100k audio taper pot wired in the standard VC configuration (signal in to pin 1, signal out from pin 2 (to output jack), and pin 3 to ground). The only other change is that I increased the input and out put DC blocking (decoupling) capacitors to 0.1 uf in order to allow more base through (which is good for harp).
