The only standing military force Empires at the time had were the Royal and Imperal Guards, the Persian Armies that invaded Greece in the Greco-Persian Wars were made up of Conscripts drawn from all cornors of the Empire, the Immortials however as the Persian Imperial Guard was a standing force always numbering 10,000 when one died or retired he was immediatally replaced creating the illusion that there was something mystical about the unit

@honeytos28 the Persians ruled most of the world and had different armies throughout there empire, hope it cleared a few things up

@XDwillubemahfrend yes, the Persian empire referenced in this film occupied over 44% of the known world. It was the largest empire ever (considering the world population at the time). The British Empire as we known was the most expansive. The Mongolian Empire was the largest contiguous empire.
