King Crimson is a rock band founded in 1969. Although typically categorised as a foundational progressive rock group, the band has incorporated diverse influences and instrumentation during its history. The band has been influential on many contemporary musical artists and gained a large cult following despite garnering little radio or music video airplay.

The band's lineup (centred on guitarist Robert Fripp) has persistently altered throughout its existence, with eighteen musicians and two lyricists passing through the ranks. A greater degree of stability was achieved later on in its history (with current frontman Adrian Belew having been a consistent member since 1981).

In the Court of the Crimson King released in 1969 is their debut album. It is generally viewed as one of the strongest of the progressive rock genre, where King Crimson largely stripped away the blues-based foundations of rock music and mixed together with jazz and European symphonic elements. In his 1997 book Rocking the Classics, critic and musicologist Edward Macan notes that In the Court of the Crimson King "may be the most influential progressive rock album ever released".

You clearly have no musical discernment at all. TWR is just a bunch of unconnected weird noises (and that annoying broken glass effect gets old after the first time it appears), doesn't hang together as a coherent whole at all. This on the other hand is a group of musicians creating music together, listening to one another and tuning in.

  • King Crimson is so good.

  • An almost evil sounding piece of music. The mood is sinister, to say the least.

  • @91exile they weren't bad, but I haven't heard enough of them to call myself a fan.

  • @Frobe1357 also supertramp

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr Mercy!!!Go find some good alternative herbal mindmelt & write back later. It's simple expressionism. Over-ANALyzing is pointless............

  • This track spoils an otherwise superb album. Sounds like someone pushed a rock Band and a cellist down a flight of stairs and then made them play with brain damage. Still, we all have our off-days.

  • @fat8622 Can't agree there... except Marillion. Nothing progressive there. Before they made it big I heard a bootleg of them live doing Three Boats Down From the Candy. Almost note for note but badly done copy of Supper's Ready. Utter SHITE!

  • @derpificate nice.

  • the problem with "experimental songs" is that they're extremals: masterpieces or mediocre collection of noises. if you want to decide, is very difficult. the unique form of deciding is searching the "artistic meaning" of the song. providence is like a metaphisical exploration of a confused mind, who begins like a slow crying and then growths to a obscure soundscape. many "experimental songs" have no meaning, only a collection of noises. listen sentimental journey by pere ubu, another masterpiece

  • The nasty bass make me feel like raping someone hard

  • 80's KC are okay but too monotonic.

90's and 00's king crimson almost suck.

they are too weird but not in a good way weird.

for example "sex sleep eat drink dream".

starts off an amazing riff but then belew vocals come in.

and what is this into the frying pan bullshit?

those descending full notes over the same bass riff are fuckin annoying as hell.

the sequels of fracture and larks are not bad.

    "scarcity of miracles" is amazing.

hope it will be the new line up
