@Sallyallie89 I honestly don't think the cast knew about the manipulated shtuff. I saw her deleted scenes and she acted loads better in those, but that scene she was talking to the principle just seemed so forced

@LockedGT I have to agree with 0hNoNotHimAgain. I think her acting was terrific in this film because, as the manipulated living, she acted accordingly. And I am not saying it based on her looks (I am female btw, so her looks are meaningless to me).

@LockedGT Barrymore's unquestionable hotness aside, was her acting "terrible" in DD, or is it being misinterpreted?

Did her character seem at times strange, idiosyncratic, troubled, lost? Absolutely! Remember that ALL these people (Ms. Pomeroy, Kitty Farmer, Jim Cunningham et al.) are the Manipulated Living. "They are prone to irrational, bizarre...behavior, the unfortunate result of their task...to assist the Living Receiver." IMO *that* is what she was trying to convey, and pulled it off well.
