Certainly says a lot for the integrity of the boat and the skills of the pilot. Great job avoiding an area loaded with fans. Sorry JW was hurt but thank God it was only that bad. Kind of reminds me of Bill Muncey with the PT boat back in the early 60's. Amazing video. Thanks for sharing it.

@BelgianEvo yeah, from the crash the throttle was stuck and they had to shut down the fuel supply.

Wow does it take that long to shut down the engine? You hear the engine power down as soon as he gets in trouble, but he keeps on going like hell ...... and after the colision the engine still keeps going ..... was there a problem with shutting down or so?

The entire floor of the hydroplane was taken off in the crash and was dragging in the water, pulling on the accelerator and revving the engine. JW had to cut the fuel to kill the engine. With multiple fractures of his left foot and his legs dangling in the Detroit River, we think he did a pretty good job after the crash...
