  • Such a shame this happened, though I’m not sure if the Seacliff location was the most ideal (though scenic and unspoiled), in terms of location, so far out of town. Or the old mental hospital site’s horrifying, macabre history of suffering souls, must be one of the most haunted places in New Zealand. It has just changed hands again. We truly need a transport and tech museum in this supposed city of heritage, where our history in the is filed has scattered all over the country, a disgrace.

  • @Pullisto: It is truly sad that Dunedin's history is not respected by progressive city managers.

there is so much potential being lost.

  • I recently just came back from Dunedin and had been loonking for this museum, my dad had vistied this museum in 1994 and found an old projection room that he had worked in, along with his signature still on the wall. My dad just suddenly died in september last year and i was so looking forward to seeing it, but this video was the only thing i could find about the whole museum. I wonder what they ever did with it.

  • The remaining buildings I hear became a Backpackers..

What cinema did your Dad work in?

  • what a shame! what happened to all these cars?

  • shortly after this was filmed the weekend paper ran a story on Seacliff that resulted in the Council removing all the museum artifacts, a year later they Auctioned off all the Trams and Cable cars, One of which was restored but modified and placed infront of the Cableways Pub in Kairorai Valley Dunedin. the fate of the other "shells" I don't know.

  • I think there are two on the way to Taiaroa Head, not in great condition though.

  • @odentroll Too right, I’ve been citing more than a few items of great local and nationwide interest, that would make it so worthwhile. Aside the paramount importance of saving heritage for the future, in a renowned heritage city, it would be a new attraction, educational for schools and enjoyable projects for many of us interested, but indeed, the city fathers seem to think a money gobbling white elephant for rugby is the only thing we need, all else is starved. Good work with your clips.

  • that is horrid - auctioning off all that history. i've seen the shell of a shall outside cableways.
