Aikido movement (sabaki) and use of the body (tsukai) are the subject matter of this third installation of the Trilogy of Basic Aikido featuring Endo Seishiro shihan. Through plentiful footnotes, verbal explanation and demonstration, Endo sensei elucidates the physical and mental elements of footwork and use of the arms and upper body. Rather than specific techniques, the responses relative to different attacks and specific movements are presented in this production, clearly and repeatedly. Details on grabbing and striking are also offered. Recorded at Endo sensei's dojo in Saku, Japan and featuring 27 chapters, this video will prove to be an abundant source of study of the most basic, concrete details as well as the finer applications of aikido principles.

"'Atari', 'musubi' , 'sabaki' and 'tsukai'. So far in the series I have taught these concepts as 'the basics of the basics'. When practicing the basic forms ('kihon no kata' ), these are the critical states of one's feelings and body movements. "

  • Do you use ki to guide your opponent with the atari?

And what is the second technique? Won't a n opponent just stand still instead of following and then try to grab you again?!

  • This is slow movement - normally you have to do it fast of course.

  • i really liked your videos :D

  • Thank you

  • These are exercises to teach form and learn extension of relaxed power. Practical application would be different. That doesn't mean something real isn't going on there.

  • I'm not sure to which techniques you refer.

But al this are not techniques or forms or kata but tools used to get the contact to uke, to hold it wether he wants or not and to guide him with this contact.

I have to admit, it looks strange and one can't see why that works.

But done properly it works very well. You won't slip off. But control the attacker very clear.

It's not miraculous: You can learn it in class.

I tested it often with people not being used to it.

  • I´m curious about something you might know the anwers: The Shihans, thay all live from Aikido? Or they have another jobs?

I´m junst asking this because the shihan I "know" about is Reishin Kaway, whose lived for Aikido, but not from it.

    Just Curious about your experiences.

    Thanks.

  • This is amazing and quite real Aikido. The problem some people have with this is what they perceive to be as real. We are so taught to believe brute force is the

only way, but you must practice and understand how much of that is not only true, but not necessary. It like most illusions of life. Thank you for posting such great teachings.

  • great, thx a lot

  • espulu, If you grab nague in aikido with all your might, you will just injure your wrist. The idea is not to block but to blend, so you can follow nagues movements. It is a very intelligent way to learn because it trains you to be agile.

  • please do more videos
