Ya that trick works great when you got to do a bunch of pilot holes (as you do) I wrap the bit about 10-20 times with masking tape... straight edge at the level I want the Bit to Stop at like...

]==[][][][][]==> Drill Bit With Tape On It

Leave the tape on and make it your pilot hole Bit

Suggestion for you hole depths. Place drill bit in the hole, put a peice of tape around the bit, level with the hole. Now when ya drill, go just to the tape and stop. Depth will be perfect every time. Its an ol' wood workers trick.

hold the drill bit up to the wooden peg. same size bit same size hole. skip the bigger and bigger bits. save time

would the same method work for a larger grow box just use bigger demensions say like 5 ft tall by 2 ft wide?
