  • What makes this utterly beautiful piece of music all the moving to me is that it is written for that precise moment at the heart of the Mass when Catholics believe the infinitely powerful yet infinitely tender Christ becomes truly present on the altar under the form of bread and wine. The sheer sweetness of the music conveys something of the overwhelming consolation of Christ's presence.

(And for those who don't share this belief, please be considerate enough at least not to pour scorn on it).

  • The Missa solemnis in D Major, Op. 123 was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven from 1819-1823. It was first performed on April 7, 1824 in St. Petersburg, under the auspices of Beethoven's patron Prince Nikolai Galitzin; an incomplete performance was given in Vienna on 7 May 1824, when the Kyrie, Credo, and Agnus Dei were conducted by the composer.[1] It is generally considered to be one of the composer's supreme achievements.

  • grazie.....GREETINGS FROM ITALY

  • @kamelium i can identify with you, i'm jewish and i think religious music written by geniuses like beethoven, mozart, bach, etc. is simply divine, it trascends all religions

  • creo que la musica es hermosa y el nombre de misa nada tiene que ver con con esta belleza, puesto que Beethoven era un catolico no practicante y alejado de la religion.

  • @injamaven Like all Beethoven s music. This is the the truth

  • The audio and visual tracks are only out of sync in this movement, and I don't know why the video was released with it, as it comes off as being amateurish and certainly Bernstein and DG would only have the best professionals doing the video. I find it strange.

  • Watch the Missa Solemnis posted by Carosaxone ..... surpasses this performance

  • clearly, the descent of the Holy Spirit
