The Pollin Group and After Stonewall Productions are pleased to announce that the 2nd annual cruise of Pride of the Ocean will be celebrating the significance of growth of the LGBT Film Festival. Six Festivals from Boston, Philadelphia, Long Island, Rhode Island, Vermont and Montreal will be presenting works on the Norwegian Gem when it sets sail from New York City on May 29, 2011.

The Pride of the Ocean's Program Director, John Scagliotti (creator the first LGBT TV series on PBS, In the Life , as well as the producer of the first gay film on PBS, BEFORE STONEWALL, will be collaborating with five festival directors. Each festival on board will have a special day on the cruise to present films.. They will also participate in a panel discussion with those on the cruise about the future of the LGBT film festival and what it might look like in five years.

"Over the past 30 years you have seen tremendous growth and energy in the LGBT film festival world," says Scagliotti upon announcing this unique collaboration. "There are now more than 200 such festivals around the world that attract two million audience viewers each year. In some towns the GLBT film festival is the biggest festival in town. In some places it's the only film festival. But whether they are large ones like Q-Fest Philadelphia or small like Vermont's CineSLAM, they all provide an immense value in community organizing. The LGBT film festival is a way to reflect on our lives and enjoy the many talents in our community."

The festivals on board will also financially benefit from programming proceeds of those attending the cruise which embarks from New York City's harbor to Bermuda on May 29th for seven days of film, seminars and entertainment returning on June 5th.

The festival directors on this 2nd cruise will be Q-Fest Philadelphia's Jennifer Arndt-Johns (contemplating films like CHILDREN OF GOD by Kareem Mortimer) , Rhode Island's Stephen Flynn loves GET HAPPY (filmmaker Mark Payne will be on board), Montreal's Charlie Bordreau and Katharine Setzer's favorite pick is LES AMOURS IMAGINAIRES by director Xavier Dolan, Flickers: Rhode Island's Richard Corso is doing a shorts presentation including THE SINGLE MOTHER and BEDFELLOWS (directors Ryan Logan and Pierre Stefanos will be on board) and Boston's James Nadeau will be presenting a surprise and yet to be released film.

Besides the Festival directors presentations Pride of the Ocean will also again be hosting a collaboration of Q-Me Con (Queer Media & Entertainment Conference) and The Center for Independent Documentary seminar panels on subjects concerning the film industry challenges. Included so far on the panels will be Ryan Harrington,( Director of Documentary Programs at the Tribeca Film Institute where he oversees the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund and TFI Documentary Fund, J.D. Disalvatore ( L.A.-based producer of films like SHELTER, A MARINE STORY AND EATING OUT 2), Jonathan Gann (founder of D.C. Film Alliance and creator of D.C Shorts Film Festival), Jennifer Howd (founder of Punkmouse and Q-Me Con), Susi Walsh (director of the Center for Independent Documentary) and Mark Payne (two time Emmy Award winning makeup artist and director of GET HAPPY).

Also taking place on board the ship will be CineSLAM's Film Slam Seminars where our cruise participants get to observe works (many in progress) by 10 filmmakers invited to join us from across the country. The CineSLAM filmmakers on board range from already established award winning directors like Rodney Evans (BROTHER TO BROTHER) and Yoruba Richen (PROMISED LAND) to emerging filmmakers like Sam Berliner, a genderqueer/trans graduate film student at San Francisco State University (GENDERBUSTERS) and Arkansas-raised UCLA filmmaker Jonathan Crawford (TELL ME A MEMORY).

James Pollin, who leads the Pollin Group LLC which is managing the Pride of the Ocean cruises, says "this is really a rather unique way to bring together a very talented group of people to share ideas and creative works. It is exciting to be part of such a ground breaking concept. GLBT filmmakers and those who enjoy their films are an extremely important part of our cultural heritage in this new century and Pride of the Ocean is an exciting way to further those connections between filmmakers and their audiences."

The third cruise of Pride of the Ocean is already in the making and will be taking place in January 2012 on the Norwegian EPIC and will again high light more LGTB festivals including New Fest of New York City and Connecticut's Out Film.
