you are too right, it's no ones fault but our own.

there are many civilized muslim countries, Islam is people's choice in this day and age and it was their choice in Pahlavi's period, people chose to follow and set Iran on fire, non of them did anything to stop it then. if you chose to change your religion in shah's time you could, you could have very easily without any punishment. religion is a scapegoat for people's ignorance and weakness.
