This is why it has been a while since I posted a video. I wanted to replace the stock hard disk in my Macbook with a larger and more reliable one. While the original still works, it makes the strangest (and bad-sounding) "squeak" noise from time to time. The stock drive also has a reputation, so why chance it? And what better way to spend a very rainy and windy day than by staying inside and playing around with computer hardware?

Note: I realize that the type of computer a person has borders on a religion to some people. I pick the hardware that does the job I want to do, and use plenty of different operating systems (Windows, DOS, Mac OS X, OS/2, AIX, Linux, etc...) Therefore, please do not post "mac-hater" comments or pro/con arguments on this video. Thank you. :-)

  • my windows computer also has a seagate HD and its pretty quiet compared to my old WD

  • The Seagate drives in some Macbooks, Mac minis and other (even non Apple) computers were known to have potentially serious mechanical troubles. And while the original drive in my Macbook is still working, I thought I should change it and got a whale of a deal on the WD drive.

  • macs are ok but there not good at every thing

  • I don't 'do' the whole Mac vs. PC argument. I use the computer hardware and software that does what I want, regardless of the OS. This Mac does well for what I use it with--I take it out on service calls where the ability to have both the Mac OS and Windows is handy. Plus, the size is perfect.

  • funny how you pick WD cause every drive i have seen or had fail was WD

and a buddy of mine has a dell laptop that came with a WD drive and about one month after the warranty had expired so did the hard drive without warning

now he has lost all kinds of priceless photos

  • Thank you Bill. :) I just recently acquired a job to repair a Mac Book... But the owner spilled water in it...So it is probably no good.. He just wanted to extract the info off of The Hard drive...so I went and bought a USB Hard Drive Dock....So I will be able to get the info off... and he probably have to scrap the thing...Hopefully the hard drive is still in ok shape

  • I Hope My Hitachi Drive Wont Crash. Now Apple Uses Hitachi. I Wonder What Company They Will Use Next?

  • Thanks so much great job on the video I'm off to buy a new hard drive

  • Yup. I have had two horrible experiences with Seagate drives, both got the click of death. Got a Samsung Story Station and it works perfectly..... touch wood!

  • @rml695 I'm sure you got the answer by now, but just in case not, or if anyone else is wondering, yes it does.
