Serial killers have inspired many horror writers to write the most horrifying stories. The novel, Psycho, was inspired by the serial killer Ed Gein. The guy was a real psycho who was into some occult stuff and made household objects with the body parts of his victims such as teeth, nails, skin, nipples, vaginas and intestines.ect.

@1StoryImageFigure1 Agreed. I made the mistake of standing under a weeping willow after a few hours of condemned, at night... turning and just seeing a shadowy figure gliding towards me scared me to death.
Everything in Condemned pretty much can occur in real life, and the really weird elements are all in Ethan's mind. It was masterfully done, I found. I gush about this game, but I think it deserves it.
Dead Space was fantastic as well, but I would consider it gory action more than horror.

@GreyHunter That is one of the problems, in my opinion, of modern horror games when it comes to enemies. Necromorphs and zombies do not exist and the idea of them actually attacking you is unlikely. Serial killers and crackheads do exist and the fact that it can happen to you greatly adds to the games scare factor.

a detective thriller :D

@AMF1534 The fact that the enemies in this game never really get more weird than jumped up crackheads and psychopaths really helped add to the horror for me.
I'm not going to be afraid of zombies or necromorphs walking to my buddy's place at night, but after a long session of Condemned, I was definitely looking over my shoulder.

This was one of my favorite games.. i was so excited for the sequal but then they ruin it with adding mulitplayer >.>
Glad you're doing this one. This was the best horror game I've ever played.
Shame about the second one though...

@GreyHunter I actually liked the second one, though they kind of made it a little too radical. I actually never finished it yet, so that will be interesting.

@AMF1534 I think the fact that you haven't finished it might be why you still really like it. It starts to go downhill really quickly near the end, maybe the last third of the game.
Look forward to reliving this one with you though! Criminal Origins is the bomb! I love how they limit you to walking so slowly when you move around normally. It really serves to ramp up the tension and realism. Some games where you always just run into danger feels too rushed, you know what I mean?

@GreyHunter Oh I know exactly what you mean. I love when games subtly put horror elements into games, like this one for instance, thats the problem with a lot of newer horror/survival genre games is that they just kinda throw it at you in bunches and then deprive you of it in other stretches. Companies are just trying too hard to be innovative. They can use such plain ideas but twist them into horrifying things, but instead they just try to make up radical things that kill the game as a whole
