Slept, Gareth had dream, camera calling, followed intuition to playground of ancient granite, Alabama Hills at foot of mountains of Sierra Nevada. Investigated hallowed magic ground, living museum of cinematic scenes. Suddenly gunfire scattered students through garden of rounded rocks, who was firing? Spectral baddies and goodies emerged dark waters of timeless light from crevices and over hangs. Lone Ranger and Tonto approached, their colloid holograms quivered, told team: find the camera.

Just drove through, geocaching. This rates up there with Monument Valley in terms of great old Western movie locations. You truly feel part of the old west when you hop from boulder to boulder in these hills. Gorgeous in every way, and largely empty in the winter months when the air was a short sleeve 50 degrees and wind abated. Never saw a villain but did hear gunshot up near where Gunga Din was filmed. Hmmm...

They are fairly close to the Chocolate Mountains.And I'm sure there's no chocolate there...Heard about those Southern Sympathizers being in our fine Yankee state.A bunch of 'em made movies in Hollywood.Makes sense they would go here film some of them.

It goes back to the days of the Confederacy in the U.S. Some people from the deep south were there and made up the name in honor of the Confederacy.

This was great!Begs only one question;who decided to name them the Alabama Hills?I'm sure there are hills in Alabama.Are they like this?
