  • is your substrate PF original substituting verm with sawdust?

keeping the cakes in the jars after the dunk is better too.

Look at RodgerRabbit's video Let's Grow Mushrooms for his PF Tek he demonstrates shiitake mushrooms and they're the size of portobellos

  • My substrates are sawdust, bran, and gypsum. It took a few months of growing after innoculation. A lot of fun.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • do you mean it took 3 months to incubate, colonize, birth, and fruit?! that's a lot of time and effort for 3 mushrooms. do you have several tubs going concurrently?

do you make your own bran and sawdust? where do you get them? any particular kinds?

  • Yah, it takes a long time. It is really fun, not very productive. It is easy to make your own medium. I got the sawdust from a golf course when they were chopping down the kind of tree right for this (Oregon white oak). I did pressure cook, mixing, and waiting. At the time, there weren't many mushroom growing videos like this.

  • i don't know if you're still growing shiitake, but maybe this will help. "Let's Grow Mushrooms! pf tek part 4", starting at 6'10". pressure cooking a dozen jars takes no longer than 2 jars. preparing a tub every month will give you something to do while you're waiting to harvest, and you'll cut harvest time in half. you're right, it's amazing how available good information has become.

  • Thanks for the tip. I don't do it any more.

  • @CrackBadger52 they are poisonous illegal and they ruin your sense of reality making you want to kill yourself

  • does this work for marijuana mushrooms?

  • I was wondering if you could start with a pin, culture it and then use that? I was watching a RR video and the guy said that pins grow faster. Do you think that could accelerate growth?

  • that's disgusting but awesome=]

  • PF cakes are the wrong method for shittake's

  • can i go and cut down a tree just outside or does it has to be sterilized?

  • just curious: did you start with Intenet-bought spawn/plugs/spores? I'd like to find a way to get these going with specimens from the store/farmer's market? Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Awesome.

  • thats too much man u made my day

  • They have anti-mediocrity properties for sure.
