Alittle bit about Penny:
penny is a Gaited horse, she is a Sabino... she was 12 years old (i think) she was a brood mare before the guy we bought her from got her. she was an amazing girl. when i first met her... i walked out to the feild to see who the new horse was, and i just stood there and she was in the other in of the paddock. and so she looked up when i came to the gait... and i said "hello beautiful" (no not because of the song... i hadnt heard it then) and she came galloping up to the gait... and i stood there and rubbed her face and after that i came up to see her and the other horses often... then a few weeks later, i saw a "horse for sale sign" up and i went up to the barn to ask what horse was for sale... and we were not planning on getting a horse, i just wanted to know who was leaving the barn. and the guy who owned penny, and a few other horses there was feeding, so i asked him who was leaving... and he showed me penny. i was heart broken... i loved penny... so i went in to her stall and groomed her while she was eating her feed. then i went to school... after talking about getting penny, that night i called her owner to see about coming up and riding her, to see if we wanted to buy her. he told us yes and we planned to meet the next day after my lesson. then there was another man who wanted penny and was going to look at her before we did... and he seemed really interested in her... so we decided to move it up and plan to ride her that night... we went up and we groomed and saddled her up and her owner rode her down the street, and there was a puppy... and this puppy would nip at her heels and run UNDER her while she gaited down the road... and she didnt even flinch. then i got on her and rode her.... and loved her... so we got her. and the next day we walked her home. and i took pictures of her. and rode her... she was amazing... we hit afew rough patches, but made it threw them... and i found out she loved to race... but not riding race... she wanted to foot race people! if she saw me comming... she would trot to the corner of her pen and trot in a circle, and flick her mane around... and toss her head... and i would stand down there and say "ready, set, go!" and we would both run down to the other end of the paddock. and she would trot back there and want to do it again... then about a year or two later i got my Thoroughbred, Dobe... and we could no longer keep penny... it just wasnt fair to keep her and not do anything with her... so i made the decision to sell her... it was the hardest decision i have ever had to make... i felt horrible... and i knew who would want her... so i called my friend... and they took her... i wanted so bad to keep penny... but knew she would not be happy there in a feild... alone... so i did what i had to do... so i got penny all ready for my friend, to pick her up and take her to the farm. i had my bags packed and penny ready to go... we loaded her up. and piled in the truck and drove. when we got to the farm we unloaded everything. and put the horses out. then we went on with the rest of our day... then the next day when i was going to be picked up... was the hardest part... leaving without penny... i wondered 'did i really do the right thing? should i really leave her? i want her back' but knew i couldnt do that to her new family. so i left without my penny...
my favorite story to tell about penny's new family and how much they love her is... one time when i went up there to spend the night and ride with my friend, we went out to eat. and as we were leaving there was a big bowl full (key word FULL) of peppermints... and when we left my friend grabbed a small hand full and said "heres for Penny Polly and Star" (her 3 horses) and i said "ill get some more" and grabbed another small hand full... well her little brother walked up and said " heres some for PENNY." and took a huge hand full and filled his pockets... there was hardly ANYTHING left in the basket when he was done... they barely skimmed the bottom... and we both just died laughing... and sure enough... all those peppermints went to penny... (not all at once)
thanks for reading.
