No. The worst thing that can happen is when the star gets put in the place YOU'RE standing in, and you have to go round the whole land again to get it. >.<

That was pretty much like what happened to me in MP 2. I was in first with 7 stars on the last round of the final board, I accidentally stepped on Chance Time, and had to trade all those stars to last place, so he won.
I haven't played again in a long time.

thats nothing. in MP4 at goombas casino I had to trade in 47th round with the 4th cpu player. he had 37 coins or something like that. me: 25 stars and nearly 900 coins. my friend laughed so hard...
