The other day I did find out from somebody that the old cars use whats called a siamesed or "X-Pipe" exhaust cross-over and thats what gives the Daytona and Talladega motors that loud high pitched howl. Nascar engines have always had a high pitched sound to the engine, but the x-pipe really enhances it a lot. The Nationwide cars still use this obvieously. I also found out that the COT cars even use a smaller plate. A 31-32nd, instead of a full 1 inch.
I think it has to do with the way the exhaust is setup. On the old cars, they either had exhaust pipes going out both sides of the car or just on the left. The C.O.T exhaust only goes out the right.
Find 2 videos one that says 2008 camping world crashes and the other that says 2008 daytona 500 3 laps Newman wins. Play the daytona from 1:28-1:50 and compare it to the 1st 11 seconds of the camping world crashes video. You'll see that they sound like 2 completely diffrent engines from the onboard cams.
aptg95 i have noticed this too. The old cars don't sound like they have restricter plates even though they do. The old cars run 7000-7500 on the restricter plate tracks while the C.O.T car runs 8000-8500 restricter plates but the engines would still sound diffrent even if they both ran at the same RPM. the old car seems like it make a louder humming when restricted but the sound of COT isn't affected when restricted. It has somthing to do with the air and the engines intake or something.
I heard that one of Aryton Senna's biggest regrets is not winning a karting world championship
