I strongly disagree with the statement that "scientist believe that humans are at the top of the heap". This simply means that we, as humans, are the doinate species on earth, which is true. Most scientis believe that life is abundant in the universe but have doubts about that life traveling here. The distance between stars is so great that even at the speed of light, which Einstein says can't happen, woukld take a multitude of generations to get here.
