The video shows a 1 horse-power Stickney gasoline engine, made around 1910 in Minnesota. Called the "Universal", it was suppose to be able to do about any job around the house & farm. The engine has spark plug ignition & the governor simply cuts the spark out until the engine coasts back down to speed. While the engine is coasting it's pulling in intake & then pushing unburnt fuel/air charges out the exhaust. (something like a giant Maytag)

  • that's a real nice engine. you should leave it just like it is.

  • @boa721 Thanks! My dad & I both don't like paint so it'll stay like it is. It gets sprayed down with motor oil once a year.

  • This is quite an interesting engine. It performs three work functions at the same time. Was it used to run a small industrial shop?

  • @xKmotx Not sure what this one was originally used for.

  • The arm sticking out the back seems to be a pump jack.

  • -What the heck is that ?, some kind of a multi-function thing ?
