Fall in love with your movie collection all over again with the XD-E500. The XD-E500 not only upconverts standard DVD up to 1080p to match the resolution of your HD TV, but also enhances your viewing experience thanks to three user selectable XDE modes: Sharp for enhanced edge detail, Color for richer blues and greens, and Contrast for enhancement of details in darker scenes.

  • finding nemo always makes me cry.

  • PS3 is not a reputable upscaler. Oppo and Toshiba have excellant upconverters. You may need to get a HDTV to see the difference, and if you do, get a calibration done. You will be blown away by Blu and XDE, seriously, calibration must be done out of box. HDTV is not set for optimal picture quality of of the box. Your calibration must be waaaayyy off.

  • somebody know how to hack this player to a multiregion?

  • I just bought the newest model - the XDE-600. I tried in in an A/B test against the Oppo DV-980h and Pioneer Elite DV-49AV. On a calibrated 37" 1080p the Toshiba was better than the Pioneer and an equal to the Oppo in upscaling using the "sharp" mode. Without the XDE enhancement settings it fell back behind both of those. Using sharp, its amazing IQ for the price. I sold the Pioneer and sent the Oppo back its so good.

  • Maybe its time to make a new look on DVD player like frog for example the tongue of the frog are to put the DVD?

  • I have an HDTV though...

The XDE and the PS3 were pretty similar I thought.

  • The Movies I compared it with were

    Casino Royale Blu-Ray and DVD

The Star Wars Trilogy (Special Editions)

    Disney's Pinocchio DVD & Blu-Ray

  • I compared a bunch of DVDs to Blu-Rays and the XDE did make the DVDs look better but the Blu-Ray was still more clear and sharp. I then compared it with DVDs and once again the DVDs weren't a huge improvement. The DVDs were less blurry and that was about it the three options really varied with difference DVDs.

I will wait for the next XDE model, Hopefully Toshiba will make it better.

I am still blown away by how good my Sony DVD player looks which is set up through Component Cables.
