  • Hm... something's missing. You haven't explained what would make God immoral about murder. You don't explain how you define morality, or ethics. This makes your argument sound like "well, I don't like what God does so it's immoral to worship him".

I think you're mostly right (see my video) but there's some core philosophical information missing.

  • No, I say murder is evil. Therefore, worshiping or following a murderer is wrong. God is a torturer; therefore worshipping him is also wrong. Whether I like god is not part of the argument, and there is no philosophy involved. I simply make two presumptions and a comparison. I don't want to straw man you, but you completely ignored the premise of my argument.

  • "No, I say murder is evil."

How can you say that, if not because God says so in the Bible? That is my point.

    Same for torture.

  • If "god" says the color green is evil in the bible, how does that make it so. Essentially, all ideals of morality are entirely abstract and I am simply working with the concepts of morality most people have regardless of religion. Moreover, people do not use the bible as a source of morality or sunday night football would be a capital offense and eating lobster would be considered an abomination onto the "lord".

  • 2:11 says it all. Obviously the post is an idiot.

  • I'm allright with it presented that way.

Happy to see you are not a blind moron, on the contrary. Thank you for taking the time to make your video more clear to me. ;)

  • You essentially are saying this is at least in part an appeal to emotion, but all discussions of this sort employ that to at least some degree. I do not try to make an appeal to fear but instead one to empathy employing the Jews as an analog to all non-believers of God, and Hitler to God and it may work for some and not others. As such, other videos will contain other tactics to try to persuade people to my view.

  • The conseqences of killing are, and that makes a hell of a difference. Still larger difference if you talk about a God whose understanding of the consequences are uncanny.

  • Sure, most people don't. But what I see here is that your ethics consists of a mostly acurate generalization - but it still is simply based on what people feel like instead of reason. You gotta find something stronger that feelings to talk about ethics.

Murder is not bad IN ITSELF for most people, since defensive murder is mostly accepted. Also think about abortion, euthanasia (active or passive), death penalty, or even eating animals. Killing is not bad for most people.

  • I have always stated that if the "god" of the bible revealed himself to me... I would then believe, but not worship that genocidal maniac.
