I found this guy really rude at times. Its like even the way he looks at her and his speach over, he gives me the idea that he was not looking forward to interviewing her, like he was forced to do it.

Recall the when this interview was done. R&B music, inc. Hip hop, was finally getting recognition by mainstream USA, after years of being 2nd class music. Her style may have appeared to be diff than what one would expect of an AA women in 2000. She was getting criticized about her music even before her mid80s popularity.
