The doctrine of purgatory is rather complex for a non-Catholic. But it is really very simple - it is God's cauterizing and purifying love that prepares us to meet Hiim face to face, because the only way that we can be united with Him is if we are completely cleansed from all the impediments that are caused by sin and human imperfections. When we become perfectly as we are, as children of God, then we become ready to be in the fullness of God's presence. This is a doctrine that cannot just be seen and understood by separating the New Testament but from the totality of the Catholic Tradition, which encompasses a gamut of sources, including the Jewish roots of Christianity, as well as the Old Testament and the early Church Fathers.

The Catholic's practical way of living out this doctrine is to remain united in prayer with all those who have died, as they journey into everlasting life.

  • Sorry folks, I think there is no more rational discussion possible at this point. Let heaven decide about us all, someday...

  • Listen, we are PURGED OF OUR SINS ( not some, ALL ) by the blood of Jesus Christ. Heb1:3,Rom8:1 and John5:24. Remember "there is no more condemnation when Jesus passed over our sins and paid the ultimate penalty for us." Why didnt the apostles ever discuss purgatory? 2Cor5:8There is no mention of pur. here.

  • Catholics defend purg. by quoting the uninspired 2Mac12:40-46 where a "sin offering" is offered for dead soldiers who had committed the sin of idolatry. This not only contradicts the Bible, but also catholic teaching, because idolatry is a "mortal sin" that would confine a person to hell. An ex-nun said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets and that popery is of satan. I agree with this 100%.

  • @carriebrk gee not there I wonder where it could that verse Jesus Christ is a relationship

  • 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

  • @martlut 2 Kings 2:10-12 11 "Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. " I'd say they were with Elijah, and where was he?

  • @martlut - John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name"...John 8:31,32 "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."Col 1:18 "And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church..." 1 Cor 12:27 "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually."

  • @johnthreesixteen316 gee where does it say this in the Bible The true church of Jesus Christ is a relationship

  • @johnthreesixteen316 tell Me where were Abraham,Lazarus Moses and Elias? He was already dead four days (John 11:17) when Jesus arrived at his tomb. Where was his soul during those four days? It could not be heaven or hell for the same reasons as for Moses and Elias Abraham,Lazarus . Please tell me where they were ..

  • There is no biblical basis for purgatory. The young man in the video is deceived. He is getting his anti-biblical notions from the Books of the Apocrypha. Christ suffered on the cross SO WE DON'T HAVE TO. Only His credit card is big enough to pay for our salvation.

  • @hapipadi If we let Heaven decide someday, then it will be too late for those who have not accepted Christ's one time sacrifice for sin.
