Filling the Gap

More than a third of Americans did not visit a dentist in 2008, often due to loss of dental insurance.

To help those who cannot afford oral health care, the Colorado Dental Association held its third annual Mission of Mercy, a weekend in which more than $1 million worth of free services were donated to the needy. Hundreds of people line up for everything from extractions to root canals to routine cleanings, and are grateful for the procedures that help to keep them healthy and pain-free.
