@cameronkirkconnell I don't know anything about spear-fishing, and maybe I'm suggesting something that already exists, BUT - is there some kind of auto-inflatable buoy that could be triggered by the rig leaving your arm? Like the life vests on airplanes, but with the leash attached to your elbow or something. If a big one rips the rig out, it could inflate and drag the rig (and fish, ideally) to the surface - like those barrels in JAWS 1.

I videoed Brandon Wahlers getting spooled faster than this on a big GT a few years ago too but it is impressive how fast these fish are.
I had a reel from another company a few years back that locked up on me when i was at 80 and had a 80+ lb amberjack on dragging me straightdown. couldn't cut it just had to let the whole rig go straight down out of sight in 500 feet of water... Still love reels but you have to know when to let go........
