Video tutorial by Noreen Crone-Findlay demonstrating the steps of how to wind a stackable, flat ball of yarn on the nostepinne. Nosties are wonderful- low tech, lightweight, easy to take with you, and once you have the steps worked out, very quick to work with. • Thank you. I'm going to switch to this method. as soon as I made a nostepinne.

  • @PIGGLEWIGGINS Actually, a big fat knitting needle or giganto crochet hook or dowel all work well as nostepinnes, too! Happy winding!

  • AHA! I've always wondered how people get those nice little flat balls of yarn. Now I know! Thank you for sharing, this was very clear and easy to understand!

  • @dancingzira Hi Dancing Zira- Now you can happily whip up yummy 'yarncakes', too!

There is something soooooooooo satisfying about being able to make wonderful flat balls of stackable yarn (aka yarncakes LOL) that have the double advantage of allowing you to work with both yarn ends at once. Nostepinnes are bliss. Just bliss!

And, happy yarncaking! (It does take some practice to make your yarncakes poifeck, but no yarn will be harmed in the try try try again practice sessions!) :o)

  • Superbly wonderful instructional video! That's great technique, thank you very much! Love your voice, too!

  • @ladykuroda Oh, thank you, thank you, LadyKuroda! Your comments are so kind! Thank you!

  • You are such a pleasant person to watch. Thanks for the great video. Perfect instructions.

  • Thank you so much for this very helpful video! My first try with written instructions left me with a ball, but now I'm getting the lovely cake I had hoped for.

  • My nostepine is my THUMB - get the same results but without an actual nostepine. If I had a videocamera I would vlog how I wind it on my thumb.

  • @alpacama1 Nosties are so much more portable, too. And... you can use all kinds of things as nostepinnes.... a dowel, a fat knitting needle or crochet hook, a cardboard tube... Sometimes, a nostepinne is the ONLY thing you can use to wind the yarn. A friend recently brought a hopelessly tangled skein of yarn over and there was no way it could be wound using a ball winder, so it was the nostepinne to the rescue.

  • thank you Noreen! always wondered how these worked, sometimes I just don't feel like getting out my ball winder (how lazy!) so I think I definately need a nostie :-)

  • also, now that you mentioned the impracticality of toting around a ball winder, you've given me the idea to make it collapsible into a smallish briefcase-like thing. still no match for the doodley-stick size wise, but the more things that fold into briefcase-like things the better :D
